Tommy x Zendaya

To celebrate the launch of the 2019 Tommy Hilfiger x Zendaya collection, MPC and creative director Alan Bibby were tasked with creating a trippy 70s commercial featuring Zendaya and her zodiac artwork.

My role in this spot was the motion design and art direction of psychadelic zodiac world. The intention was to create an animation look that was old-school and authentic to the era, pulling inspiration from sources such as the Scanimate - the worlds first analog motion design instrument from the 1960s.

Design Process

The psychadelic scenes were created by taking the collection’s zodiac illustrations and echoing them 3D space, driving their animations from Zendayas movements and a series of simple algorithms.

The test below was an early exploration and inspiration for the eventual motion of the piece.
